Jefferson City - Today, Ms. Anna Beckett of Crawford County was recognized by Governor Matt Blunt and Department of Social Services' Director, K. Gary Sherman, on the lawn of the State Capitol in Jefferson City. The awards presentation was the culmination of State Employee Recognition Day.
“The best ideas come from the employees working inside the system day-in and day-out,” said Director Sherman. “Ms. Beckett recognized and solved a potential problem before it occurred. The Department thanks her for her excellent work.”
Ms. Beckett received the Missouri Relies on Everyone (MoRE) award. MoRE is Missouri’s Sate Employee Suggestions System. This employee driven system operates on the principle that state employees can uniquely identify opportunities to reduce cost, increase efficiency and improve service in government. Ms. Beckett was recognized for a winning suggestion for the Family Assistance Management Information System (FAMIS).
Ms. Beckett identified a potential problem when she noted that providers who invoice online can only be paid for hours authorized by the FAMIS system. However, there are legitimate reasons why more hours of service may be required than authorized. Consequently, Ms. Beckett made the suggestion to cross reference the online invoicing system with authorization system. As a result, when a provider bills for more hours than authorized, the system now alerts the provider to contact their Family Support Office. This enables the provider to have an early warning of the potential conflict and enables them to resolve it.
“Ms. Beckett’s solution avoids the problems that arise from a provider budgeting under false assumptions,” said Janel Luck, Director of the Family Support Division. “Earlier detection of a problem is better for the provider; we are pleased with this improvement in customer service.”
